Yer girl in music is just so smitten with the tequila-tinged voice of folk-rock singer-songwriter Lissie Maurus. Though her debut effort, last years Catching a Tiger, has no trouble standing on its own merit, the sizeable collection of famous fans hasn’t done her any harm either. How many up-and-coming songstresses can say Lenny Kravitz invited them to open before they’d released their first album, that Katy Perry extolled Twitter to lend her their ears, or that David Lynch was spotted in the audience of an early gig?
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Lissie seems eager to pay it forward on her newly released Covered Up With Flowers, an EP that covers an eclectic mix of artists from Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” to Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” and my personal fave in a post-Voldemort world… Lissie’s cover of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”
I’d never kiss and tell but those ra-ra-oom-ra-ras during the spoken word interlude sure make me ache quite deliciously in a “let’s make a few bad choices tonight” kind of way.
