In case you missed it, LA-based Australian indie-rock import Andy Clockwise is headlining KROQ Presents at The Roxy tomorrow night, September 22nd, in the final of three wildly successful So-Cal gigs. The music video for Clockwise’s “Love and War” off his recent stateside debut The Socialite premiered on September 6, and you can watch it now by clicking on the video icon to the left of this article. At the end of this post Ill let you know how you can win tickets or buy them at a special exclusive rate for readers of this column.

Influenced by the likes of Nick Cave, Bob Dylan, Prince and Tom Waits, Clockwise has a charmingly broad appeal. He spent the last two years proving it while paying his LA rock-&-roll dues with sold out club dates citywide from the Miracle Mile’s El Rey to WeHo’s Troubadour to Spaceland in SilverLake. He also acquired a band with a stage synergy that somehow inspire even the stiffest too-fake-LA-cool audience to (gasp!) move around and otherwise indicate they’re aware music is being performed live in their presence and they don’t totally hate it.

Blending rock, pop, synth and punk into self-described “schizo pop,” the debut album was recorded in Sydney, New York, London, Hollywood, airport bathrooms, hotel rooms, garages and other places around the world, including, possibly, your closet (you never know). The Socialite showcases the tremendous range of Clockwise’s musicianship and writing prowess with 13 relentless tracks of angsty indie-pop turns to anthemic rock-n-roll hymns.

Clockwise achieved national success in his native Down Under, touring with INXS and the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, before setting his sights on La-La Land. Here, he’s headlined LA’s inaugural Hudson Block Party; performed with Missy Higgins at SaMo Pier’s Twilight Summer Series Australia Rocks the Pier; headlined Sunset Junction’s famed Satellite residency (plus NYC residencies at Piano’s, Rockwood Music Hall and Brooklyn’s Union Hall); and featured in several SXSW showcases this year, from Hotel Café and Little Radio to the Aussie BBQ.
