Tag looks like the latest offering in the catalog of grown men ensemble comedies with unbelievably crazy premises. What makes this one uniquely weird is that it’s actually based on a true story. Today, the first trailer dropped. And it’s bonkers.
The film is based on a true story about a group of friends played by Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, and Ed Helms, who have been playing a 30-year game of tag. Jeremy Renner is the one person in their group that has never been tagged “it”. After he announces his retirement from the game, his friends have one last shot to try and tag him.
The movie looks like an incredibly silly, fun comedy. I love the cast that they brought together for the film, and I’m sure it will pack a laugh-filled punch intended. Jeremy Renner has always played a badass in the films that he’s been in, and it’s funny to see this film take that element of the actor and implement it into a game of tag. Here’s the synopsis:
For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready. Based on a true story, the New Line Cinema comedy “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing.
